Nookamka - Captain Charles Sturt - Environmental Class Room

Developed as part of the Land Environmental Action Program (LEAP) this is an environmental classroom created to highlight the existing problems of erosion from storm and water damage, flood and wind.

Local schools participated in the project by propagating trees and have been involved in the ongoing tree planting program.

The Cobdogla outdoor classroom is an amphitheater constructed in a horse-shoe shape that incorporates historical and Aboriginal names, the site was refurbished in 2022. An indicative Aboriginal campsite with a wurley and a large number of concrete models of artifacts and fauna can be sighted along the walking trail and you'll even find an unusual sundial.

Nookamka is one of the traditional names that Lake Bonney was known as, the information boards provide detail regarding the local fauna and flora. Further information regarding the cultural heritage of the lake and surrounds is being developed in partnership with the traditional owners, the First Peoples of the River Murray & Mallee, the Native Title holders for Lake Bonney and surrounds.
